About Marlize
Marlize Myburgh formally commenced her arts career in 1994 when she received a Bachelor's Degree in Jewellery Design and Metal Technique from the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa. She continued this relationship by lecturing in jewellery design at the university's Department of Fine Arts during 1995 and in the following year started to work as a full-time artist from her own studio.
During her studies, as well as thereafter, Marlize proved that she had a special talent for design by attaining various awards like the De Beers Shining Light Award as well as AngloGold Riches of Africa prizes.
In 2003, she also started working in ceramics under the supervision of the well-known artist Hennie Meyer and had her first solo exhibition in ceramics as well as jewellery that year.
In the summer of 2005, Marlize and her family relocated to Melbourne, where she continued her studies of jewellery as well as ceramics. In 2009, she received an Advanced Diploma of Engineering (Jewellery Design) and in 2011 a Diploma of Arts (Ceramics), both from Box Hill Institute. Between June and July 2009, she also had the privilege to participate in an artist residency program at the Cité Internationale Des Arts in Paris.
She loves to experiment with different techniques and materials and in doing so, discovers new creative opportunities all the time. She also likes to play with texture, surfaces of different granularities as well as colours. Quality craftsmanship and detail is very important to her and making sure her clients are satisfied with her work is always her top priority. Marlize currently accepts commission work and regularly takes part in exhibitions in both ceramics and jewellery.
